Logo analysis

The two images above consist two logos, the first belongs to the band 'The Rolling Stones' the other belongs to 'Blink 182'. Both logos are significant to the bands image and people can distinguish the images from any other band. The logos are both fairly simple and it appeals to audiences, we know this as there is merchandise sold with these logos on. Neither logo is over-simplified nor too complex, they are both simple and are both bold and eye-catching.
The importance of logos links in with our work importantly because when we create our digipacks we will need something significant which stands out to attract audiences to buy our digipack. We must ensure to create interesting and attractive images so that they represent our artist distinctivlu from everyone else making people buy her products.

Digipack analysis

This digipack consists of a two disc pack from The Kooks. The two discs at the top behind a white background are both very similar. They are both black and have 'The Kooks Are Coming' located in exactly the same position. There is then writing below which appears to be the same, the reason they have done this as they may have chosen to keep the layout simple hence why they have used the default colours of black & white.
In the bottom left we see a picture of the band walking along the street. This may be done to connote their style, simple/casual. The image also adds to this simple/casual because the black and white effect takes away the colour and makes everything appear clean.
The image on the front cover (bottom right) consists of the band playing their individual instruments (guitars and drum) and has a bold title of the band name. The image consists of low-key lighting which suggests that the band doesn't produce happy and joyful music and may suggest they are more mellow.

Roles of each member in the group when filming

Dominic: The roles that I will be doing when filming our music will consist of lighting, props, costume and we will all participate in the editing. I will be doing these as I will know how to lay out the scene to fit the mood of the song. These aspects of mise-en-scene as they create the theme of the music video to reveal a story and the meaning.

Harjinder: Harjinder’s roles will consist of choosing the locations, splitting the cinematography Michael and he will take part in editing.  Harj will determine the location as he will know what places we can use to film, he will also contact people to see if we can film in a certain place.

Michael: Michael will be the leading director, split the cinematography with Harj and participate in the editing. Micheal will be the director as he is best suited for the job and will be sure to lead the pack, him and harj will work together to make the cinematography as good as possible aswell as playing a part in the editing.

Annotated lyrics for our song

This is the annoted lyrics for the song we are using for our music video. Annotating the lyrics allows us to divide our ideas for drawing the storyboard into sections. So when it comes down to drawing out our storyboards the annotated lyrics will help us put the right shots when we are drawing out the storyboard. We have to ensure that the shots used in the storyboard are timed correctly and by annotating the lyrics this will help ensure it.

Greenscreen Digipack Analysis Completed

This is the completed version of our digipack analysis. We have added the digipack image into the background, this shows that the greenscreen worked well and it also means we presented the features of the digipack properly.

Plan of the Greenscreen analysis

Here is the filming of all 3 members analysis the layout of the digipack. This will be significant to our work because soon enough we will have to create our own digipack. The images we will be using will be of our artist and pictures of the location shots. The image that will cover the greenscreen is this image of the 'Boys II Men' digipack. This will all be applied in the editing.

Here is the brief about our music video we will be creating. The brief will consist of information surrounding the music video: our artist, location, narrative/performance and the target audience. We have also applied an audience profile, this will specify the target audience which we will be aiming at.

This is my analysis on Goodwin's theory. The analysis ties in with the work me and my group are doing now, using this theory will help significantly with our work by understanding how the theory and how it is done to create large audiences for music videos. By acknowledging this understanding of music videos we will be sure to film our music video as professionally as possible.

Teacher feedback on the overview of my blog.

This is the feedback given by my teacher. The feedback consists of the work which I have done on my blog, the teacher gives her opinion about the quality and quantity work I have accomplished. She talks about both the positive and negative aspects of my blog and my job is to acknowledge what she says and then make the improvements in order to make my blog as intriguing as possible.

Torn Animatic

A video from the animatic we all created for the music video we will be making. The screenshots consist of pictures we have taken from our storyboard and we have put them together in the timing and order to how we plan to film our music video.

My mood board prezi.

Tuesday, 9 October 2012

Lesson journal 4

This lesson we analysed digipack's from different artists. A digipack consists of a series of a series of discs/CS's all together in one pack. The digipack we analysed was from a group called 'Boys II Men'. When we was in class we wrote down notes on the digipack about what it looks like (design), what it features, about the group and what can be improved on the digipack.
After we analysed the pack and wrote down enough notes on it we went into the Mac room to record our notes about the digipack's with the green screen behind us. The green screen was used because when we edit the footage we will apply images of the digipack to the footage. Each member of the group took turns speaking infront of the camera about the digipack.
Once the filming was finished we extracted the footage onto the mac's so that we could edit everything together and apply the image of the digipack, this was done because we required the image of the digipack to fit onto the green screen background. The green screen was used to make the image look as if it is actually there.

Lesson journal 3

This lesson we finished off creating our mood boards. Once they were finished we took pictures of each sections of the board and put the images onto the Mac's so that we could apply the images to our prezi's.
We finished off our mood boards by adding in four paragraphs about the relation between our artist and other artists similar to her, we also added paragraphs explaining the use of the  pictures surrounding the moodboard. We also cut out torn love hearts and applied them to the mood board to make it more creative. Once the moodboard was complete we took several shots of it, we took one long shot of the moodboard and then took close up shots of the different pictures.
We then uploaded the pictures to our mac's so that we could start using the images in our prezis. When we apply them to our prezis we will write more information about them explaining why and how we came together to create the moodboard.

Lesson journal 2

This lesson we began our 'mood board' for our music video. A mood board consists of a series of images, writing and creative artwork all applied to a piece of A3 paper to help express the mood and feeling the song is releasing.

(Unfinished)

Lesson journal 1

This lesson we organised ourselves into groups and began to create our music video brief in order to create our music video. My group consists of me, Michael and Harjinder. This lesson we all came together in order to obtain an initial idea to planning our music video. We all brainstormed ideas as to what song we could make a music video, we were restricted as we could not chose a song with a music video in the recent 10 years as long as it didn't have a music video.
We then agreed to take Mike's idea in getting a girl from our school who sings to cover a song. This is a good idea because it allows us to talk more about the artist and when recording the music video we can record the artist singing the song in the studio. We had also decided to chose Chanelle as our artist because she has a great voice and we feel that when we record the music video we feel that she may be able to relate to the song.

Coldplay - Paradise. Analysis

Here is an analysis of Coldplay - Paradise. To analyse this music video this by using Andrew Goodwin's theory which sugguests that music videos follow certain rules or codes & conventions.
There was little exposure of the band in this music video. The only exposure was when they played live and the shot of the lead singer when he took his elephant head off when riding the unicycle. The shot where he took off the head was very confusing as it ruined the feel of the music video, this is because it almost ruined the video as it left a gap in the narrative of the video, which is an elephant esacping to go back to his family/friends.
The relation between the lyrics and visual was very obvious, paradise. The lyrics mentions a girl dreaming of paradise but the visuals have made the dreaming come true and made this paradise existant, but for an elephant of course.
The genre characteristics are shown in this video when we see the band perform a live performance, this characteristic is common as rock bands often tend to play live performances.

Jay-Z 99 Problems. Analysis

Here is an analysis of Jay-Z - 99 Problems. To analyse this music video this by using Andrew Goodwin's theory which sugguests that music videos follow certain rules or codes & conventions.
In this music video there is a lack of scopophillia considering that this is an R 'n' B music video. There are very few shots of barely clothed women considering the lyrics consist of words such as 'bitches' and 'hoes'. There is a lot of exposure of Jay-Z in this video as there are several different shots of him, there are many close-up shots oh him but there are also a variety of shots used for effect e.g wide shot of him when he is in the car being stopped by the police.
There is a relation between the lyrics and the the visual is when the voice of the policeman says K-9's and  as soon as he says that the lyrics are synchronised by the visuals as the shot of the K-9 biting the cage is shown.
The characteristics to this video aren't like many other R 'n' B music videos, this video focuses more on a 'thug life' than compared to a 'gangster lifestyle'. These characteristics have been represented through the environment the video is filmed in. There is no sign of wealth in this video and the area is very corrupt, we can see this 'thug life' once we see Jay-Z get shot.
The shots used in this video are very random and are debatable whether they have reference to anything, an example of this is when we see the strangley dressed man dancing in a tunnel. This shot had no specific relation to the lyrics or music.

Music Video brief planning

You have been asked to devise and make a promotional music video for the new act detailed below. As a new act, the record label is keen that this first release appeal to a wide audience and establish an image that is both recognizably unique and appealing to their target audience. With this in mind, their first release will be a cover version and will be used as a platform for future original releases. The record label is happy for this release to be any of the three songs listed below and would like you to choose whichever one you can make a dynamic promo for, as the key thing is to get them exposed!

Chanele is 19 and comes from a small town in Greater London. After getting to the judges houses round of her X-Factor in 2009 but losing out because she was ‘too different’, Lucy decided to change tack. She used her X-Factor exposure to build a fanbase through My Space and released a few tracks as free downloads. She got signed to Tough Trade a few months ago.

Sound: Pop.

Ideology: Be what you want to be, not what society says you should be.

Influences: Janis Joplin, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Florence & the Machine.

Likes: Charity shops, clubbing, fancy dress parties.

Dislikes: Size zeros, boredom.

Year 13 summer task research

This is my Year 13 Media summer task. For my summer task I decided to do my case study on 'Ed Sheeran.'
